Her silk scarves and wall hangings fluttered in the breeze, welcoming me into her open space overlooking the Mekong River. She was sitting at her loom, as I imagine she does for much of the day, weaving masterworks in silk.

We acknowledged each other with the Lao greeting, "sabaidee" as I looked around. When I approached her at the loom, I noticed she was doing a supplemental weave, her fingers plucking threads through the warp. I held up my camera to signal if I might take photos and she nodded yes. At one point she smiled, which was such a delightful moment.

Her name is Am Phom. I bought three of her uniquely designed, random ikat patterned, silk scarves. I only regret I didn't buy more! Next time when I go to Xang Khong village.
